EDWARD III @ HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL WITH THE PORTERS OF HELLSGATE
Julie will be playing Lord Audley in the Porters of Hellsgate's upcoming production of Edward III at the Hollywood Fringe Festival! This play has not graced a Los Angeles stage since the 1980s, as it was only relatively recently discovered to be a part of Shakespeare's canon. "Power. Passion. Fury. Betrayal. Hotly debated for centuries, finally accepted as Shakespearean canon, EDWARD III bursts into the spotlight with all the zeal of its eponymous king. From the blood-soaked battlefields of France to the scandalous courtly intrigue of England, this hidden gem delivers dastardly diplomacy, gripping drama, and razor-sharp wit. Step into the chaos of a continent at war – and discover the play that time forgot." For more information, please click here. |

THE THREE MUSKETEERS STUDENT PRODUCTION
Julie had an incredible time directing an immensely talented and hilarious group of 7th graders in their production of Ken Ludwig's The Three Musketeers. Students not only participated in the production as actors, but as as crew and designers, leaning about all aspects of theater production. They also had the opportunity to learn fight choreography, taught by the incredible Chloe Madriaga. From Ludwig: "The story, set in 1625, begins with D’Artagnan, who sets off for Paris in search of adventure. Along with D’Artagnan goes Sabine, his sister, the quintessential tomboy. Sent with D’Artagnan to attend a convent school in Paris, she poses as a young man – D’Artagnan’s servant – and quickly becomes entangled in her brother’s adventures. Soon after reaching Paris, D’Artagnan encounters the greatest heroes of the day – Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, the famous musketeers – and he joins forces with his heroes to defend the honor of the Queen of France. In so doing, he finds himself in opposition to the most dangerous man in Europe, Cardinal Richelieu. Even more deadly is the infamous Countess de Winter, known as Milady, who will stop at nothing to exact revenge on D’Artagnan – and Sabine – for their meddlesome behavior. Little does Milady know that the young girl she scorns, Sabine, will ultimately save the day." |

THE MERRY WIVES OF WINDSOR w/ THE PORTERS OF HELLSGATE
Julie has directed a one-night-only, live reading of William Shakespeare’s farcical romp, The Merry Wives of Windsor with The Porters of Hellsgate. This is part of the new series called “Radically Miscast Shakespeare," conceived and produced by Associate Artistic Director, Dawn Alden, in which actors play roles that they would not normally be cast in. Julie wonders - this play gives us perhaps our clearest view into a slice of middle-class Elizabethan England life. But does its emphasis on domestic gender roles, social status, and cuckoldry's significance specific to the time period hold up when made up of a crew of radically miscast actors in 2024? When told by an alternate voice, perhaps we can begin to empathize with Ford's jealousy and Falstaff's plight, uncover nuance in the power assertions of the merry wives, and find greater comedy in the immense pride on display by almost all its characters. At the least, the small dramas of the more ordinary folks not typically found in Shakespeare do not feel far away from our own ordinary messes of day-to-day life now. Tickets to the event are free. THE LITTLE PRINCE STUDENT PRODUCTION
Julie has had the distinct pleasure of directing a talented group of 7th graders in their production of The Little Prince. Students have not only participated in the production as actors, but as as crew and designers, leaning about all aspects of theater production. The story begins with the Aviator who loves to draw but is told he should focus on “more important things.” He grows up to become a pilot and his plane crashes in the Sahara desert. There, in the middle of nowhere, he meets a mysterious young boy, the Little Prince. He tells the Aviator about his home planet, planets he has visited, and his thoughts on grown-ups from all over the universe. He teaches the Aviator that the most important things in life are "invisible to the eye." For more information on the show, please contact her directly. |

VENUS AND ADONIS @ THE PORTERS OF HELLSGATE
Who could reject the Goddess of Love herself? Thought to have been written during the bubonic play as a means for William to stay on top of rent, the epic poem Venus and Adonis is too beautiful and powerful to remain hidden from modern audiences. Roman Goddess of Love and Beauty Venus falls for mortal Adonis, supposedly the most stunning man she had ever seen. However, he is not interested in her advances and instead meets a grisly fate by hunting wild boar. Julie directed this little-known work as a part of a play reading series with the Porters of Hellsgate Theatre Company. She adapted the script to serve as a successful two-hander and worked with two incredible actors: Dennis Renard and Charlotte Munson. This was a free staged reading for the public. Ticket information about current and future productions with the Porters can be found here. |

MRS. WARREN'S PROFESSION @ THE CLASSICAL THEATRE LAB
Shaw's extremely controversial play about "the oldest profession in the world" critiques the capitalist and sexist society that allows for it to flourish. Julie had the opportunity to play Vivie Warren, Mrs. Warren's daughter, who finds how her mother has been able to afford her lavish lifestyle and high education. Over the course of one weekend, the Warren's entire backstory is revealed and their lives are irreversibly changed. To reserve tickets to future staged reading and performances with the Classical Theatre Lab, please click here. |

ROMEO @ RIOT OF THE TIPSY BACCHANALS
"But soft, what light through yonder window breaks?" Julie got to find out when she played Romeo in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet (what else?). Riot Shakespeare chooses one of the Bard's pieces to mount and casts it based on...vibes. Then, without ever rehearsing, actors meet up with their lines memorized (hopefully) to perform the show for the first and last time. Julie has had the chance to play a variety of roles with Riot, including Luciana in The Comedy of Errors, Sebastian in Twelfth Night, Conrad in Much Ado About Nothing, Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Arviragus in Cymbeline. You can find more about this wacky company on their Instagram. |

NIMROD @ THEATRE OF NOTE
One year out from the election-an uncouth, bloviating, orange-hued president Nimrod sits on the throne, surrounded by crony advisors and entitled children. For the beleaguered First Lady Lani, the only good news is that her husband doesn't even really seem to want a second term. But something is rotten in the States of America. A new age is here: An age of stupid lies, un-fake fake news, fracturing language, novel illnesses...and a terrible game for power is afoot. It's a wild ride full of betrayals, unexpected violence, and plays masterminded by the brainless. Welcome to the White House. Julie was proud to serve in a producorial-style role on this production, liaising between the Artistic Management Committee and the show producers. You can read a review about the production by clicking here. |

ALL IS TRUE OR HENRY VIII @ THE PORTERS OF HELLSGATE
Shakespeare's most overlooked history play, Henry VIII brings the mid-1500s English court to life. England's most notorious king discovers the power of breaking the church in two, so he may divorce his first wife Katherine and marry the young Ann Boleyn in hopes she will produce a male heir. His right-hand man Cardinal Wolsey manipulates Henry for his own advantage and falls from grace. Julie had the chance to play the Duke of Norfolk, Anne Boleyn's power-hungry uncle who maneuvers her onto the throne and leads the charge to unseat Cardinal Wolsey. She was thrilled to portray this role as female, bringing the story forward into a modern context that feels strangely resonant. Ticket information about current and future productions with the Porters can be found here. |

THE CHERRY ORCHARD POSTPONED
Due to safety concerns over COVID-19, Chase What Flies Theater Co. has decided to postpone their production of Anton Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard." Looks like you're going to have to wait until Fall to catch Julie as the feisty, naive maid Dunyasha. In the meantime... "Do silly things. Foolishness is a great deal more vital and healthy than our straining and striving after a meaningful life." -Anton Chekhov |
